In this phase, EASST hosted their first ever Active Travel Youth Summits for young people across the region. The Summits provided an opportunity for young people to share their perspectives and views on safer road use and active travel. Over 100 young people participated in the events, which received support from local partners and the FIA Road Safety Grants Programme funded by the FIA Foundation.

EASST initially launched the project in 2021. Concerned by the number of road deaths and injuries in Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, the organisation created a multiphase programme to promote safe active travel in the region. The first phase (also supported by FIA Road Safety Grants) supported studies, policy dialogues, public awareness campaigns, and youth awareness campaigns. The next stage is set to launch in 2024, and will bring the campaign to road users in Azerbaijan and Moldova.

The end of Phase 2 comes just months after the project participated in the FIA President’s Road Safety Award, in recognition of its impact and innovative approach.
